We are very proud of our Leisure and Lifestyle Coordinator, Heather Rogers, who was recognised this month as one of three Queensland State Finalists in the Individual Award of the Excellence in Aged Care Services 2018 Awards.

LASA is Leading Aged Services Australia, it is the peak body for aged care providers in Australia
Heather was recognised for her amazing work on our annual Bribie Island Holiday. Although nothing happens at Wongaburra without an team effort, it is Heather's drive and leadership which makes this annual activity both very popular with our care recipients and extremely beneficial to their health and social inaction.
This is a unique feature of our Activities Calendar, with residents, staff and volunteers heading off to Bribie Island for three nights.
There are trips to the beach using our two water wheelchairs. These chairs are designed and made to allow residents in wheelchairs to be able to go into the sea and enjoy it. The chairs were purchased a few years ago through a grant arranged by Heather, and cost around $8000.
The holiday makers go to tourist attractions and places of special interest. There are cards and other games in the evenings.
It gives our residents the opportunity to have a beach holiday each year.
The holiday was recognised as both unique and very beneficial by the Auditors in our last Accreditation Audit and they recommended that we enter the LASA Awards.
So we are very proud of Heather for making it through to be a Finalist
